Student Name: Amy Hong Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: The theme of time, specifically memories, drove me to paint my friend and her chihuahua. People haven’t been able to meet with their friends and family due to Covid-19. Painting this from a photo I had taken before the pandemic was a way to reminisce about life, look back on joyful memories you share with friends and family. I hope this inspires people to check in on their loved ones.

Student Name: Emma Croce Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: The tragic death of George Floyd ignited civil protests across the world. While some countries protested to show their support with the United States, others protested against police brutality in their own nations. When I was given an assignment to focus on texture, I decided to focus on different types of black hair while also showing a peaceful protest of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Japanese Retrospect

Organization or School Affiliation: Groton-Dunstable Regional High School
Student Name: Hiba Khan Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: Inspired by Japanese architecture, I used a black ballpoint pen to implement detailed cross hatching with linear perspective. The perspective in the buildings, along with the experimentation of lights and darks and the proportional lines on each person, makes the piece look more dimensional in terms of depth and space and achieves a detailed and unique final result.
